10 Tips for Better Air Travel

Traveling for leisure or business can take a toll on any traveler. Here are some tips to make your next flight easier:

• Take zinc supplements and echinacea before flying to boost your immune system.

• Take B Complex to help ease the effects of stress to your system.

• Give yourself plenty of time to arrive at the airport to alleviate stress and worry about check in times and lines.

• Limit your alcohol. The liquor effect is more intense due to altitude. The low oxygen on planes can give you a hangover and can intensify the effect of liquor in your system.

• Drink lots of water 2 days before, and no caffeine (including caffeine rich teas and coffees) during the flight to help your body get accustomed to the air pressure.

• Pack Disposable Earplugs in your carry-on bag. It will help block out unwanted noise on
the flight. FWO loves Flent’s Quiet! Please Foam Ear Plugs (available at any local drugstore).

• When possible, pack liquids in your checked baggage – it will help you will get through security faster.

• Bring a few bags of chamomile tea for nerves and relaxation and ginger root tea for motion sickness. A double strength brew of chamomile acts as a great natural sedative. Just ask the flight attendant for the hot water when tea and coffee is offered.

• Make 2 copies of your passport (and any family member traveling with you). Be sure to include issue dates and expiry dates. In addition to the original passport, bring one copy with you while traveling and keep one copy in a safe location at home. In the event your passport is lost or stolen, this will be a lifesaver.

• On long flights, take a few minutes to walk the aisles or move your legs and arms to simulate walking and exercise. If you are not allergic, take an aspirin to help eliminate blood clots or deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

As always, be sure to check with your doctor first before following any medical advice not recommended by your own physician.
