Catching A Cold or Flu Virus Could Be Making You Fat
Scientists have presented a new study showing infection with the adenovirus-36 (Ad-36) virus-one of a family of about 50 viruses that cause colds, upper respiratory infections, gastrointestinal problems, and eye inflammations- may be a contributing factor to obesity.
No one is suggesting that this virus is the only cause of weight gain, but rather that it may be an additional factor, and an explanation as to why obesity rates are climbing even though our eating and exercise habits have not varied that much over the past decade.
I don’t know how much of this I believe. I mean, come on! Doesn’t this sound like an excuse for the fatty foods being so cheap and healthy foods being less affordable? What about that? How about the price of gyms going up and the lack of gym class being offered in schools. These factors also contribute to our weight problems.
So now, I guess this opens up the market for an antibiotic to counter this fat virus? And how the hell do you know if you have it? I mean, I’m over weight from giving birth and I am constantly getting the flu and/or cold from kids, co-workers, etc. Should I get tested?
Will there now be a virus shot for this like the flu shot? Will doctors start testing obese people for the virus? This just sounds like a bunch of bologna to me! Am I crazy?
