So you think you can keep your hands to yourself? Choreographer and dancer (Melvin) Shane Sparks allegedly couldn’t.

Sparks, best known for his appearances on the reality dance competitions “So You Think You Can Dance” and “America’s Best Dance Crew,” and for creating the amazing dance moves in the dance movie “You Got Served,” was arrested Friday morning on child molestation charges.  According to reports, he’s been charged with molesting one of his female dance students back in 1994, and continuing to engage in sexual encounters with the girl through 1997. According to legal documents, Sparks’ dance student was “at least ten years younger” than Sparks when the abuse occurred.

TMZ reports:

The alleged incidents began occurring in 1994 and continued for several years. According to the criminal complaint Shane allegedly committed the crimes of lewd acts upon a child — all felonies. There is only one alleged victim.

The criminal complaint — filed by the L.A. County District Attorney’s office — charged Sparks with 8 incidents of alleged molestation with an underage girl. There was a clerical error in the D.A.’s charging documents — there are actually only 8 counts — not 9.

The lewd acts include oral copulation and other acts “with the intent of arousing, appealing to, and gratifying the lust, passions, and sexual desires of the defendant, who was at least 10 years older than [the victim].”

MTV reports:

Sparks, whose age was listed as 40 in the arrest warrant, was charged with six felony counts of committing a lewd act on a child, identified by her first name and last initial as being under the age of 14, “with the intent of arousing, appealing to, and gratifying the lust, passions and sexual desires of the said defendant and the said child.” The alleged incidents are said to have occurred between July 1, 1994 and August 1, 1994, December 1, 1994 and August 3, 1995, August 4, 1995 and April 30, 1997 and April 4, 1995 and April 30, 1997.

He was also charged with two counts of oral copulation of a person under the age of 16 by someone over the age of 21 for incidents that allegedly occurred between April 4, 1995 and April 30, 1997 and August 4, 1995 and April 30, 1997.

KTTV Fox News 11 in Los Angeles reported that the victim was one of Sparks’ dance students at Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles.

If these allegations are true, it would mean Sparks was in his mid- to late 20’s when he had sex with a CHILD under the age of 14.  How disgusting!  I used to be a big fan of his choreography, but if these allegations are true, I hope he’s prosecuted to the fullest!

Sparks is currently being held on $590,000 bail.  Stay tuned for developments on this story!
