Dead Man Walking (Almost)
Ok, people. We are REALLY hoping this doesn’t signal the start of a new trend in funerals.
A Puerto Rican man, who died mysteriously last week, was granted his last wish by his family who honored his request that his body remain STANDING during his wake. That’s right, we said STANDING.
Angel Pantoja Medina had always told his family that when he passed away, he wanted to be “happy” and “standing” at his funeral. Well, one out of two ain’t so bad, is it? We doubt Angel was exactly “happy” about his sudden passing, but his family sure was able to make sure that he was “standing.”
To honor Angel’s request, his family asked the funeral home that treated his body to use a special embalming technique, which allowed the body to remain upright. The family then propped Angel’s body up in a corner in his mother’s San Juan home, where mourning visitors could pay their last respects to Angel face-to-face for the three-day wake.
Angel was specially dressed for the occasion, sporting a Yankee’s cap, gold chain, sunglasses and matching shirt. It’s probably safe to assume he also wore designer jeans and Tims to complete the deadly fashion combo. In the photo, it appears as though Angel’s head and chin were even positioned as if to say, “What’s up, homey?” one last time to his visiting friends and family.
There was no information on whether the family kept Angel’s body upright each night during the three-day wake or if the body was laid flat each night in between showings.
Please people, promise us you will not try this at home.
