Does MTV’s ‘Jersey Shore’ Misrepresent Italian Americans?
Italian American groups are crying foul over MTV’s new reality series, “Jersey Shore,” which chronicles young Italian Americans as they spend a summer partying and vacationing in beach rentals at a New Jersey beach. Referring to themselves as “guidos” and “guidettes,” the show’s stars admit to being obsessed with parties, sex, muscles, tanning booths and hair gel. But lots of Italians have begun calling for a boycott of the show, which they say promotes negative stereotypes of Italians.
Hmmm, kinda like the VH-1 reality shows that promote negative stereotypes of African Americans and White rockers and their groupies, right?
So what do you think? Does the show go too far? Is it any worse or more offensive than other reality shows that have focused on particular ethnic groups? Or is it an accurate portrayal of some Italian Americans?

What can we say…Italians are very proud people. One thing we need to understand is these people are not the real Italians but half breeds. If you ask …most don’t speak or understand real Italians. Most all these people are an act (like clowns) and should be treated the same. Let them do the show and when we are done with them cancel the show …same as the others. What does this show have …nothing …same as the rest of them…how sad and a disappointment to all ITALIANS both here and in Italy. No reply needed.
