Global Glamour Review – black|Up Paris

black upOn a recent trip to Paris, I ran across a makeup line called  black|Up that carried an amazing color range. As an admitted makeup stalker, I couldn’t resist – even with the soaring Euro and the dropping dollar, I just HAD to make a purchase. I really wanted to stick to one item, but left with 3 lipsticks, some lipliners, powder, and a couple of pearl powders (an eyebrow/eyelid shimmer…absolutely beautiful colors)!  I just couldn’t resist and I was amazed at the quality of the makeup, the perfect pigment, and I absolutely loved the packaging.

Although the makeup artist in Paris at Printemps department store could not speak English, I was thoroughly pleased with her choice of colors for me and she needed no guidance – every color she picked for me was perfect–and I am a picky person when it comes to makeup!! The makeup line is great for all colors and skin types – as a self-professed makeup fiend, I can honestly say this is a much needed line!

black|Up has been featured in all of the major magazines overseas- Elle, Marie Claire, and O Magazine- and is the rage in Paris and London…and I can see why!

Elle, South Africa says “black’Up… has got the beauty eds’ tongues wagging. The colours are intense and there is an extensive foundation selection from the lightest to the darkest of skins. Finally!”

The website states black|Up is “… the brainchild of make-up artist, Fabrice Mahabo and is the first Parisian “Make Up Artist/Professional” brand created for all women: Black, European (White), Indian, Latin, Mixed race and Asian.”

For those of us who live in the US, you will have to make your purchases online – unless you are traveling to Europe. Black|Up is carried in many of the major department stores such Morley’s in London, Manor’s in Switzerland and in Paris is sold at Sephora’s, Galleries Lafayette and most of the major department stores.

I promise you won’t be disappointed…this makeup line is absolutely fabulous!!  Hopefully, we can report it is being sold in the states soon!! Sephora is selling it in Paris – perhaps they will sell it across the pond soon.

    Hi,

I have been researching this makeup line for months after seeing it mentioned in Essence magazine. I am a dark skinned african american female and wonder how to choose the right colors online. The colors online look “off” compared to the pictures… I want to try this makeup sooo badly but it is too expensive to get the colors wrong… Any advice. I have emailed them but no reply yet…

They sold this line at Macy’s in NY in 2003/2004. I bought $300 worth of it and I still have it today (Just because I don’t wear make-up too often). I love it, it looked amazing on and I always got compliments. I am a dark skin african-american woman. In their oil-free foundation I wear FL09. Its light, and I havent seen a brand able to capture the same look as Black Up.

^So I take it they are no longer at Macy’s NY? Thank you. I’ve been trying for three months on where I can buy this product and was still wondering if it was still at Macy’s NY. Now I have to get it online so it’s ok.

    Thanks.

Eccentric is right. It used to sell in Macy’s and I still have a face powder that I haven’t worn in years until today. And I was surprised at how well it stayed on and then wondered why I hadn’t used it in so long. I think the line failed because it was expensive, and at that time MAC was a super-hit. BlackUp foundations were wonderful, but their eyeshadow line and lipsticks weren’t better than MAC’s, and BlackUp’s expensive skin care line didn’t help. That’s just my opinion, anyway.

  • BlackUp Ooh Yeah says:

This line of makeup is still sold in Paris and the following is the line’s website url: http://estore.blackup.com/
The prices are in Euros. To say that the line was scrapped because it was too expensive is i would say a little ignorant. It is no longer sold in the US because not many know about the BlackUp make up line and competitors like MAC and L’Oreal are competitors which already have the make up market!

    To you all

    Regards
