PETA Claims Link Between Autism & Milk On New Billboard
Residents of Newark, New Jersey are buzzing about a new billboard in the city sponsored by PETA, which alleges a link between Autism and the consumption of milk by children. The controversial billboard spoofs the famous “Got Milk?” ads by posing the question, “Got Autism?” as its tag line. The sign cites studies that have linked milk with increasing numbers of autism, and also cites studies that have found improvement in Autism symptoms which have been linked with dairy-free diets.
The bold billboard was placed in a busy area of the city, near the Prudential Center arena, where it was sure to garner lots of attention. Why Newark of all places? Because surprisingly, Newark has one of the highest rates of Autism in the country, with 10.6 of every 1,000 children in the city diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
