Sexy Shoes…For Babies?!
First it was low-rise jeans for little girls. Then came sweat pants for girls with provocative statements splattered across the behind. Then THONGS for little girls. So what’s the latest adult-themed fashion trend for little girls? How about high-heeled baby shoes by a company named HEELARIOUS!
The shoes, which (believe it or not) are selling like crazy, go for $35 a pair. The creators of the shoe, long-time friends Britta Bacon and Hayden Porter, say the shoes are novelties, meant for a laugh and should not be taken too seriously. The shoes are made of soft materials, aren’t meant to be walked in, and whenever a baby’s weight is applied, the “heel” of the shoe collapses. They come in several colors and designs, including leopard print, pink patent leather, black satin, zebra print, black patent leather, and hot pink satin.
The shoes have created a frenzy among new Hollywood moms. According to the shoe website, the shoes were even given to guests at Lisa Marie Presley’s baby shower, organized by singer Pink. Nicole Richie, Minnie Driver and Tori Spelling also reportedly have the itsy-bitsy stilettos for their baby girls.
Is this just a cute trend? Or is this yet another way in which our little girls are encouraged to grow up too fast? I personally do not see the need for an infant to wear a high heels or the need for any child’s clothing to mimic “sexy” adult apparel, and the trend is a bit too ”Little Miss Sunshine” for my taste– but maybe I’m just over-reacting. What do you think?
