Steven Spielberg Supports Same Sex Marriage; Donates To The Fight

Steven Spielberg and his wife are the next celebrity couple stepping up to bat to fight the ban on same sex marriage in California. Steven and wife, Kate Capshaw have donated $100,000 to fight Proposition 8! Let’s see who will be next! I think Whoppi Goldberg, Mel Brooks, George Clooney and Matt Damon are all great candidates to put up money!

Excerpt from AFP article: “By writing discrimination into our state constitution, Proposition 8 seeks to eliminate the right of each and every citizen in our state to marry regardless of sexual orientation,” Spielberg and Capshaw said in a statement quoted by Daily Variety. “Such discrimination has no place in California’s constitution, or any other.”

California is one of only two US states where same-sex marriage is legal, following a landmark California Supreme Court ruling in May that overturned a previous ban on gay weddings.

However opponents of same-sex marriage lobbied successfully to have a measure that would reinstate the ban placed back on the ballot when Californians go to the polls to vote in presidential elections.

Recent opinion polls indicate Californians are likely to reject the bid to outlaw same-sex marriage.

After Brad Pitt’s donation last week, supporters of the proposed marriage ban said it provided more evidence that “Hollywood’s elite are out of touch with the average American.”

“With wealthy Hollywood lining up to destroy marriage, we call on every concerned citizen to donate 15 for every Brad Pitt movie they have ever seen,” Karen England wrote.

\Guess who REALLY believes in “love?” Hunkalicious Brad Pitt, that’s who!! Brad has donated $100,000 towards the effort to fight California’s November ballot initiative on banning same-sex marriages. Apparently, if you are voting in LA for the first time, you will be able to vote on whether or not to ban same-sex marriages. That could mean a lot of couples would lose their right to wed.

Also, the same vote will appear on the ballot in Massachusetts, the other state that has legalized same-sex marriages.

“Because no one has the right to deny another their life, even though they disagree with it, because everyone has the right to live the life they so desire if it doesn’t harm another and because discrimination has no place in America, my vote will be for equality and against Proposition 8,” Pitt said Wednesday to the Associated Press.

What can we say? Brad is a real stand up guy. Not only supporting orphan children in the world but fighting to ensure everyone’s rights and freedoms. I say we vote for BRAD PITT to be President! Could you imagine Angelina Jolie as the first lady? The White House would be overrun with kids from every country and ethnic background that exists! Not to mention all the banging parties with Brad’s hot, sexy Hollywood friends (think George Clooney)! Oh well, one day, right?
