Tyler Perry Makes History!
Tyler Perry made history this weekend when he opened the doors to the first-ever African American-owned major television and movie studio! Perry’s new studio will be located in Atlanta, GA, and occupies the building that Delta airlines once called its headquarters.
Perry celebrated his accomplishment with a lavish celebration that featured a guest list of who’s who among African American celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey, Will Smith, Ruby Dee, Sidney Poitier, Louis Gossett, Jr., Cicely Tyson, Tracey Edmonds, L.A. Reid, John Legend, Gayle King, Holly Robinson Peete, model Eva Pigford, Barry Bonds, and baseball legend Hank Aaron. Guests sipped on champagne and were treated to performances by Mary J. Blige, Gladys Knight and Patti LaBelle. Fireworks capped off the evening’s festivities.
Perry spoke to the crowd that was gathered to honor his accomplishment, and payed his respects to living legends attending the soiree by dedicating soundstages at the studio to Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee and Cicely Tyson. Keep making us proud, Tyler!
