What’s Wrong With This Picture?
Presidential hopeful John McCain poses with his wife and children on the cover of this week’s People Magazine. However, the family doesn’t do such a good job of promoting themselves as the unified, multi-culti bunch that perhaps they intended to with the picture. The magazine cover shows adopted Bangladeshi daughter Bridget, 17, seated (on what appears to be the floor) below Cindy McCain, while John McCain’s other children (2 adopted sons and one biological daughter from his first marriage, and his 3 biological children with his 2nd wife, Cindy) all surround their dad by either standing or sitting next to McCain.
So why was poor Bridget made to sit on the floor for the picture, physically separated from McCain by her older sister Meghan? I mean, geez, the headlines on the magazine almost cover her face up! Perhaps it was just an oversight or perhaps as the youngest in the family, Bridget just got the short end of the stick that day and was forced to take the position on the floor.
Well, whatever the reason, McCain and his PR people need a serious lesson in multi-culti PR. Didn’t anyone at the photo shoot stop to think that placing the adopted, brown-skinned daughter on the floor for the picture might not be such a good idea?!
