Wyclef Jean & Matt Damon On A Mission!
Music producer/rapper, Wyclef Jean, and actor Matt Damon recently traveled to the beleaguered island country of Haiti to provide assistance to Hurricane Ike victims. They met with citizens of the country and handed out food to dozens who’d lost their homes and loved ones when the powerful storm swept across the island this month.
According to MSN.com, the two stars are hoping to encourage “more people to help the United Nations raise more than… $100 million for an estimated 800,000 Haitians in need of aid after four devastating tropical storms and hurricanes since mid-August.” Kudos to these two, who with all their money and fame, could be relaxing on a tropical island living the highlife rather than sweating through humanitarian work on a poverty-stricken island. What an amazing example they’re setting for the rest of us to reach out and help those less fortunate in the world!
Wyclef, a native of Haiti, has used his fame and Hollywood connections to draw attention to the struggling island for years. He helped raise international awareness for the island in 2006 when globe-trotting megastars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie visited the island with him to support his Yele Haiti charity. Other stars- including Akon, Jeremy Piven, Drew Barrymore, Norah Jones, Pras, Petra Nemcova, and Meryl Streep- have also helped Wyclef raise funds for his charity, which hosts fund-raising events in the U.S., along with relief efforts and entertainment events on the island.
